HMA v Aaron Thomson, Dean Riding and Jayson Dobbs 2019

Mr Riding and Mr Thomson have had their sentences reduced after Mr Riding was sentenced originally to eight years imprisonment and Mr Riding ten years. The High Court of Judiciary has reduced their sentences to five and six years respectively. Mr Dobbs a third co-accused had his four years of detention quashed and sentenced to a community payback order. Judge Liddle who originally sentenced the co accused had stated that the victim was subject to “a cowardly and vicious assault”. The victim had 36 injuries when the attack occurred on New Years Eve 2018. A further two co accused are still serving their original jail terms. The Appeal Judges will issue their written judgment in due course.
