Eighteen year old Sean Gorman has been jailed for stabbing 25 year old, Shabaz Ali six times during an attack that took place at an Edinburgh hostel. Mr Gorman pled guilty to racially aggravated attempted murder at the High Court in Edinburgh earlier this year and has now been sentenced.

Mr Gorman has been given a sentence of eight years after Lord Woolman stated that the assault had caused Mr Ali “serious physical and psychological harm”. Mr Gorman is currently serving the end of a sentence for assault to serve injury in an unrelated matter. Mr Ali was attacked by Mr Gorman after complaining about loud music in the hostel and he later told a BBC interviewer that Mr Gorman had told him to go “back to his own country.” Mr Gorman will be continued to be supervised for four years after his release.
