Mr McMillan has been sentenced to a period of imprisonment of seven years after sexually assaulting two women in Fife. Mr McMillan pled not guilty to the charges and a Trial was held in Edinburgh High Court earlier this year, where he was found guilty of three charges of rape and sexual assault. Lord Boyd highlighted when sentencing the accused that he had a long offending record for domestic abuse which could not be ignored in sentencing him.
Mr McMillan was said to now have accepted some of his behaviour which was highlighted by the Court requested Social Work Report. Lord Boyd said: “You describe your behaviour as completely awful and bringing great shame on you.” Mr Boyd had never served a term of imprisonment before but was sentenced to seven years for the three counts of rape. He was also placed on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely. Lord Boyd concluded: “I would like to commend the outstanding bravery of these women in coming forward to report these crimes, which has been vital in securing these convictions.”
