The FDA trade union is set to ballot procurator fiscals for industrial action over a long running pay dispute which relates to solicitors at the crown office being paid less than those in the Scottish Government. The union has suggested that it is likely that its members shall be in favour of the strike action and estimate that around 500 procurator fiscals could be set to stage a walk out early in 2021.
A national FDA Scotland organiser, Allan Sampson stated:
“A lawyer starting with the Crown Office will be on £15,000 less than a lawyer starting on Scottish Government main. It’s been an issue for over a decade.”
This comes as the Scottish Government reject a proposal from the Law Society to provide financial assistance for legal firms hit by financial strain due to court closures due to coronavirus.
