Police have arrested 5 men over coursing offences. The arrests follow alleged incidents in Gifford, East Lothian, and Duns on Thursday the 4th of January.
The men will appear in Selkirk Sheriff Court. This is not the first offence of this kind recently with multiple men being arrested in August and September in 2017 for similar offences in the Highlands.
The Police received reports from the National Wildlife Crime Unit and also from the public which helped trace all 5 men, aged from 24 to late 50’s. PC Andy Loughlin, wildlife crime officer for the Lothians and Scottish Borders, said hare coursing was a “brutal act.”
The police have stated they will work with the public in order to prevent this happening any further.
