Robert Ferrier, 21 years old, had been released from prison days before committing a rape of a 14 year old girl on a platform at Bogston Railway station in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde. Mr Ferrier had been serving a sentence for possession of a knife while on bail prior to his release.
Lord Arthurson in sentencing Mr Ferrier to 6 years imprisonment with a supervision order for 4 years following his release, stated that “This was a grave sexual offence against a child, which occurred in broad daylight.” Mr Ferrier had 17 previous convictions including 11 sentences to imprisonment.
Mr Ferrier was found guilty following trial and maintains that the incident was consensual and he believed that the girl was over the age of 16.
