Ian Brash, an architect from East Lothian, admitted to embezzling £358,832 from the Dr Robert Malcolm Trust between August 2010 and September 2014. Mr Brash had used the money for his personal gain including purchasing shares, making mortgage and credit card payments and for deposits on cars and buy to let properties for him and members of his family.
Mr Brash was made subject to a confiscation order totalling £700,000 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Mr Brash had repaid £320,753 to the charity meaning that he will be required to repay £198,590 to the charity. The court further included a sum of £180,656 to be confiscated which will be reinvested in Scottish communities through the Cashback for communities programme.
